Social and Emotional Learning
Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Program
EBIA approaches the development of social-emotional skills, using both student-centered and environment-focused approaches. These skills can be seen through the pillars of our community also known as our Innovator Norms which include perseverance, curiosity, kindness, respect, conscientiousness, citizenship and leadership.
In order to prepare students to be citizens of a 21st century interconnected world, it is important that students are proficient in both academic/content skills, as well as social-emotional skills.
EBIA utilizes an advisory program as a way to provide students a holistic approach to identity and social-emotional skills development. These skills consist of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.
Advisors work with the same group of students for all three or four years of their EBIA Lower or Upper school experience. Weekly advisories engage in conversation, news updates, community enhancement, self-reflection, and team building activities.
As such, Innovator Norms and social emotional skills are woven into almost every aspect of life at EBIA including; advisory, classroom time, PBL, intersession, and after-school activities.
