Our Approach
Learning By Doing, Belonging By Design
EBIA develops Innovators for an Evolving World by combining strong academic foundations with real application, responsive support, student ownership, and a community intentionally designed for grades 6-8.
1. Learning By Doing
Students do more than encounter academic content. They use it. Across classes, students investigate phenomena, analyze texts and evidence, solve mathematical problems, conduct research, design, build, create, discuss, revise, and present.
Learning by Doing is visible across disciplines, from inquiry and research to design, creation, discussion, revision, and presentation.
The goal is not activity for activity’s sake. Students build the knowledge and skills to explain why something works, defend a conclusion, revise an idea, and communicate their thinking.
2. Capstone Learning
Capstones are one of the clearest expressions of Learning by Doing. At key points during the year, EBIA changes the master schedule so students can step out of isolated class periods and into sustained, interdisciplinary problem-solving.
These immersive projects ask students to combine knowledge from multiple subjects, work collaboratively, and present solutions to authentic challenges. The full Capstone model and project examples live on our Project-Based Learning page.

3. Responsive Intervention + Enrichment
Student needs vary, particularly in a post-pandemic educational landscape where students may enter the same grade with very different learning histories, strengths, and unfinished learning.
Twice each week, EBIA protects time for targeted intervention and enrichment. Flexible groups respond to student data and change as students grow.
4. Advisory: The Backbone Of Our Community
Advisory is the backbone of EBIA’s community. Students stay with the same advisor and advisory group across all three years, building continuity, reflection, student ownership, and strong relationships.
5. Steam + Design
At EBIA, innovation lives across disciplines. Scientific investigation, mathematical modeling, artistic expression, historical inquiry, writing, technology, and design all ask students to observe closely, make decisions, communicate ideas, and improve their work.
That is why art and science are both central to the middle school experience and why students have opportunities to connect disciplines through projects, Capstones, Science Olympiad, and enrichment.
6. Belonging By Design
Belonging at EBIA is built through relationships, inclusive support, restorative practices, family partnership, and many ways for students to contribute to the community.
7. Middle School As Discovery
A sixth grader does not need to arrive with every interest already defined. EBIA gives students opportunities to explore athletics, art, science, performance, mathematics, engineering, entrepreneurship, leadership, and more. Through those experiences, students can discover strengths they did not know they had.
That is what it means to prepare Innovators for an Evolving World.
