Sports

Approximately 25 Teams. Three Seasons. Lots Of Ways To Play.

Athletics are a major part of student life at EBIA. Across fall, winter, and spring, students have opportunities to join teams, develop skills, compete, build friendships, and represent their school.

2026-27 Fall Sports

Fall: flag football, cross country, boys futsal, girls volleyball, with pickleball, cheerleading, and girls futsal added when staffing and participation support them.

Winter Sports

Winter: boys and girls basketball, futsal, cheerleading, and other indoor-season teams as schedules, coaching, and student interest allow.

Spring Sports

Spring: soccer, track and field, pickleball, futsal, and other seasonal offerings based on facilities, coaching, and participation.

What Participation Looks Like

Teams typically practice during the school week and compete against other Bay Area middle school programs. Families receive a season schedule with game locations, start times, transportation information, and tournament details when applicable.

Some sports use tryouts when interest exceeds available roster space. Other teams may be open to broader participation, depending on the season, coaching, and facility capacity. Whenever possible, coaches aim to maximize participation and help new athletes find a place to learn.

Students are expected to attend practices, communicate with coaches, demonstrate sportsmanship, and meet school expectations while representing EBIA.

Student-athletes are expected to attend school consistently, arrive on time, stay academically engaged, and follow behavior expectations. They are also expected to communicate with coaches when conflicts arise. Students who need support may be placed on an improvement plan so school success and team participation reinforce one another.

New To The Sport? Start Here.

Middle school is an ideal time to try something new. EBIA teams include students with a range of experience levels. Coaches help students build fundamentals, understand strategy, contribute to a team, and grow over the course of the season.

Cross country, futsal, and pickleball are examples of sports where students can begin with little prior experience and build skill quickly through practice.

A History Of Strong Competition

EBIA athletes have built a record of competitive success. EBIA’s 2020 WASC self-study documented back-to-back league championship trophies for girls basketball. An EBIA boys volleyball team later posted an undefeated 8-0 record in Oakland Athletic League competition. Recent track athletes have also earned first-place OAL finishes. In 2025, Mikaeya Garcia won the eighth-grade girls 1500 meters, and Jordan Jefferson won the seventh-grade boys 100-meter hurdles. In 2026, Mia Puentes won the seventh-grade girls 400 meters.

Those results reflect what can happen when students have repeated opportunities to join a team, practice, compete, and grow. EBIA’s athletic story also extends beyond middle school. Former EBIA student-athletes have gone on to compete professionally at both major and minor league levels.

More Than The Score

Athletics give students a setting where effort becomes visible. Students learn to practice consistently and respond to coaching. They also learn to manage pressure, support teammates, recover from mistakes, and keep working toward a shared goal.

EBIA coaches emphasize fundamentals, effort, sportsmanship, teamwork, resilience, communication, and representing the school with pride.

Families + Logistics

Most practices begin shortly after dismissal and run into the late afternoon, typically around 3:30-5:15 PM depending on the sport and season.

Families receive game-location and transportation details from the school or coach before competitions. Transportation plans may vary by site and event.

The all-inclusive afterschool option includes sports. Families should review current registration materials for any sport-only or seasonal fee options.

Uniforms and school-issued equipment are distributed through the athletics program. Students are responsible for caring for and returning school property in good condition.

Families qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch receive a 50% discount, and payment plans are available so cost is not a barrier to participation.
