Help Build Innovators For An Evolving World
EBIA is a grades 6-8 public charter middle school in Oakland. Our educators combine strong academic instruction with projects, inquiry, intervention, enrichment, advisory, STEAM, and a close-knit community.
What Teaching At EBIA Can Look Like
Teachers at EBIA work within established curricula while bringing inquiry, projects, discussion, design, and student ownership to life. Roles involve collaboration across content, support, and advisory teams.
Capstones Change The Rhythm Of The School
At key points in the year, teachers collaborate across disciplines for Capstone work. The Project-Based Learning page shows how this changes the student experience.

Responsive Instruction
Teachers use student work, assessment, and collaborative planning to respond to learner needs. The academic model includes dedicated intervention and enrichment time.
Who Thrives Here
We value educators and staff members who hold high expectations and build warm, professional relationships. Strong candidates collaborate across roles, use data and student work to adjust instruction, and welcome coaching and feedback. They communicate consistently with families, value inclusion and student voice, and genuinely enjoy the energy and growth of middle school students.
Educators With Ideas Get Support
EBIA educators have earned competitive grants and outside recognition for ambitious work in science, sustainability, engineering, and project-based learning. Our STEM page highlights examples of teacher innovation in action.
Staff Development
Teachers receive coaching through observation, feedback, goal-setting, and school leadership support. Staff participate in regular professional development and professional learning communities focused on instruction, culture, inclusion, assessment, curriculum, and schoolwide priorities. New teachers receive onboarding and curriculum support, along with ongoing coaching and check-ins.
Why This Work Matters
Between sixth and eighth grade, students can change enormously. Educators at EBIA help students discover academic strengths, build stronger habits, and find new interests. They also help students recover from mistakes, develop confidence, and understand the kind of innovator and community member they want to become.
